WWE Clash of the Champions 2017

The Final WWE (Smackdown) PPV of 2017 was Clash of the Champions which emanated from Boston, Massachusetts.  If you recall a few weeks earlier during the UK tour, AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal for his WWE Championship and this was the main event with Jinder desperately trying to regain his title.

Pre-Show (Kick off Match)

Mojo Rawley vs. Zack Ryder

Main PPV

  1. Triple Threat Match for the IC Belt between Dolph Ziggler, Baron Corbin and Booby Roode
  2. Fatal 4 Way Tag Team Title Match  The Usos vs. The New Day vs. Rusev & Aiden English and Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin
  3. Smackdown Women’s Championship  Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya
  4. The Bludgeon Brothers vs. Breezango
  5. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura
  6. AJ Styles vs. Jinder Mahal

All in all I rather liked the PPV generally.  There were some pointless matches (filler) i.e. the kick-off match but overall the title matches were good.  The ladies match between Charlotte and Natalya was fun with the Lumberjacks angle played out well and Carmella ‘attempting’ to cash in MITB briefcase.  Becky was missed but she was away filming the new Marine movie with the Miz so sadly that couldn’t be helped.

The WWE title match had the Singh brothers prowling around the ring for Mahal but AJ prevailed and retained his title.  The Jinder experiment didn’t pan out as well as WWE would have liked I would imagine so having AJ (one of the world’s best wrestlers) as champion makes sense.

Good value overall and a nice end to the run of 2017 PPV’s.
