From Wikipedia.

The Erzulie is a family of loa that are often associated with water (fluidity), femininity, and feminine bodies. They are one of the only group of spirits directly tied to these characteristics and those who become possessed (through spirit possession) often are women or Masisi (Feminine and or Queer men).

Four friends book a cabin by a lake to get away from it as they haven’t seen each other in some time.  The first one of the groupnWendy arrives at the resort before anyone else and is greeted by the over friendly owner.  It soon materialises Wendy has had some bad luck and she intends to do a ritual summoning the Erzulie.  Disturbed by her friends she puts aside all her ritual gear and they all try to enjoy their surroundings.

Of course this being a horror movie, it’s not long before the spirit is summoned and things start to go bump in the night including a visit from the locals i.e. rednecks.

The film for once has four adult leads and not annoying teenage types as well as your local rednecks.  The setting by the lake is scenic and no doubt the budget was pretty low (as there was a crowd funding campaign) but it certainly doesn’t show as it’s a good looking well made picture.  It’s a little barking mad (in an unique way) with all the possession and spiritual stuff but that’s only my take on it).  I have no doubt outside of the film it is all fascinating and intense stuff hence me quoting Wikipedia at the top of the review.

A refreshing change from the usual horror BS, is it a game changing classic of the genre?  Of course not but it appears to have been made by passionate film makers who appear to have given it their awe so a big well done.
