WWE Survivor Series 2016

Survivor Series 2016 will obviously be remembered for the return of WCW Legend Bill Goldberg who came back to answer the call of Brock Lesnar and for you historians out there, it marked the 30th Anniversary of the event.

The Pre-show consisted of a triple tag-team cruiserweight bout between TJ Perkins, Noam Dar and Rich Swann taking on Drew Gulak, Tony Nese and Ariya Davari.  Kane popped up as well to take on the man with the best beard in wrestling, Luke Harper.  What I appreciate as a longtime fan of the WWE was this PPV really got back to basics and had a fair few actual ‘Survivor Series’ matches instead the odd one or two of previous years.

The ladies were out first with Team Raw (Charlotte, Sasha, Alicia, Nia) facing Team Smackdown (Nikki, Carmella, Naomi, Alexa, Becky) something went down before the match but I’ll let you find that out.  The Miz was up next defending his beloved IC belt against Sami Zayn.  of course with Maryse prowling about the ring, something was sure to go down and it did.  The next Survivor Series match was between tag teams.  Team RAW (Sheamus and Cesaro, The New Day, Cass and Enzo, The Shining Stars, Gallows and Anderson) fought Team Smackdown (Rhyno and Slater, Hype Bros, Breezango, The Usos, American Alpha).  As you would imagine the ring was seriously full for this match.

Brian Kendrick had the pleasure of defending his Cruiserweight title against Kalisto, but a certain Lone Wolf got involved and the match shouldn’t have ended in the way it did.  I think Kendrick is doing a grand job after coming back as I always rated him when he was with Paul London.

The Team RAW/Smackdown match was a real epic and time wise, the WWE let it go on for a long time.  Of course we would know why after the main event had taken place.  RAW has Owens, Jericho, Strowman, Reigns, and Rollins squaring up against AJ, Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, Orton and Shane McMahon from Smackdown.

The Main Event between Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg was certainly unexpected.  The result is well known so it shall be interesting to see where this goes moving forward.

The Blu-ray has plenty of extras on it including the kick-off matches as per normal, last year’s Survivor Series was a real change from previous years for the reason I’ve mentioned above and was a good ‘un overall.
