With the WWE title vacated due to Seth Rollins’ injury in Ireland, The Authority announced a tournament to decide who would be the new Champion. The event was also a celebration as it was 25 years since The Undertaker made his then WWF debut with Brother Love as his manager.
With the first several rounds contested on Raw and Smackdown, the semi-finals would be the first matches on the card (after the Pre-show) and would be between Roman Reigns vs. Alberto Del Rio and Dean Ambrose taking on Kevin Owens. The next match would be a tradional Survivor Series contest with the team of Ryback, The Usos and The Lucha Dragons pitted against The New Day, Sheamus and Wade Barrett. The Divas title was up next with Charlotte defending against Paige. Tyler Breeze then made his PPV debut with Summer Rae prowling around the ring against Dolph Ziggler.
The Brothers of Destruction (Undertaker and Kane) took on Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper with Strowman and Rowan on the outside itching to interfere. Thankfully it The Wyatt Family’s best workers taking on the veterans, as Rowan isn’t too bad but Strowman in my opinion is bloody awful. The Final of the tournament was next with best friends Reigns and Ambrose fighting to be the WWE Champion. What happened after the match is now known and not long after that, the belt changed hands again.
Extras wise, there is the kick off show match which another Survivor Series match featuring The Dudley Boyz, Neville, Titus O’Neil and a returning Goldust against Miz, Stardust, The Ascension and Bo Dallas. Some bits and piece from TV and a match pitting Reigns and Ambrose against Del Rio and Owens from Smackdown.
There’s been a fair amount of bitching regarding the PPV and I think apart from the Money in the Bank cash in, it was an OK PPV considering the problems WWE faced. Not the best ever Survivor Series buit it was far from being a Thanksgiving Turkey.
