The (Cannon) Ninja Trilogy

Cannon Films as we all know were the 80’s king of the B movies (they also dabbled in A Pictures as well).  There were Chuck Norris’ epics, Charles Bronson Death Wish sequels and even Richard Chamberlain in King Solomon’s Mines made as a Raiders of the Lost Ark rip-off with John Rhys-Davies co-starring.  Golan and Globus also had two Ninja series as well, one featuring Sho Kosugi and American Ninja with Michael Dudikoff and Steve James.  This set released by Eureka comprises of Sho Kosugi’s Enter the Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja and Ninja III: The Domination.

Enter the Ninja   The Legendary Franco Nero plays a military veteran who has been trained in the art of the ninja, His character of Cole visits an old friend and gets entangled in industrial shady goings-on.  Matters become complicated when an old foe (Sho Kosugi) turns up after being hired as an assassin.

Revenge of the Ninja   Playing a good guy this time Kosugi’s family is wiped out by nasty ninjas, when he arrives home discovering the slaughter, all the ninjas are killed by his hand and he leaves for America with his surviving son and his Mum.  When it turns out that his best friend is a scumbag drug dealer, loads of fighting follows at regular intervals.

Ninja III: The Domination   Possibly the stupidest Martial Arts film ever made, in which a dance instructor gets possessed by an evil ninja.  Cue big hair, spandex and ninjas!!  Keep an eye out for the hot tub assassination scene.  Only Cannon could make this and have the balls to cast the lead to an actress from Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.  Completely mad and completely great.

The set is tremendous value and once again a nice reminder that The Cannon Group are solely missed.  Easily an essential purchase and a nice compliment to the American Ninja boxset as well as other Sho Kosugi films such as Rage of Honor.
