Following on from the first set of episodes, Volume 2 continues the story of WWE vs. WCW in the ratings war which led to WCW’s demise. Culled from the WWE Network show there are ten episodes comprising of key elements in the battle for supremacy between Vince McMahon and Ted Turner.
All bases are covered with episodes covering Chris Jericho’s rise to stardom, Big Show defecting to WWE, ECW and a certain Dwayne Johnson amongst others. The Attitude era is represented well as is the two companies getting noticed in mainstream media. Famous examples of this include Sable’s Playboy spread, pop culture influences and strange celebrity appearances like Dennis Rodman. Managerial cock-up’s are covered such as WCW not really jumping on the ‘diva bandwagon’ which the WWE had done so successfully. As it mentions why would you want to see Nitro girls prancing around when on the other channel you could see sexy women wearing next to nothing. Of course a highlight of that was obviously The Godfather’s Ho Train.
The Diva’s get more than ample exposure in a postitive wrestling light showcasing the likes of Lita, Jacqueline and Trish Stratus. After each episode, the WWE have roped in Eric Bischoff to recap the show and he gives some nice insights. The blu-ray gets some extras including Hogan’s WCW parade in Orlando and an ECW title fight between Tazz and Mike Awesome.
It’s a great value package and of great importance in wrestling history, the episodes are on the network so it’s up to you if you wish to own them. It is however a terrific set and the production team have done a great job.
