Bill Goldberg was an intense individual during the heyday of the ‘Monday Night Wars’ with an unprecedented winning streak and a fantastic entrance theme. An ex-NFL player who in my opinion didn’t really impress me on his first match (which is on disc one). Obviously his talent was there and as he racked up win after win, he would be eventually a Champion. His scalps during his WCW reign included Hogan, Curt Hennig and Paul Wright amongst others. However, when WCW was bought by WWE he disappeared.
Turning up a couple of years later on RAW he began a short tenure in the WWE ending with a Wrestlemania XX match against Brock Lesnar. The three disc presentation (two on blu-ray) has a varied selection of matches and once again thanks to the vast library of WWE, lots of footage from WCW. Obviously made with no input from the big man (he should be happy though), we only have ‘voiceover guy’ doing some commentary between matches which is unusual for such a big title but don’t let it put you off.
The Ultimate Collection is well worth investing in, especially if WCW history is your thing and newcomers should relish in some nice (fairly recent) wrestling history. The kids can also see now what the chants mean at a certain Ryback.
