Having never seen the original or any of these sequels, I didn’t know quite what to expect from this remake. I do remember reading about them and seeing a couple of the sequels on the shelves at my local video shop, but never bothering to rent them. So what of the new version with quite a few familar faces from the horror genre.
Well I really enjoyed it. Angela is the local party girl and has arranged a Halloween party at an old mansion where years before there were murders and suicides. Needless to say, it all kicks off when skeletons are found in the basement and Angela becomes a demon.
The film has some terrific effects and the demons are very well done. Considering all the female leads are incredibly attractive (Shannon Elizabeth, Monica Keena, Bobbi Sue Luthor, Diora Baird) their demon make up is effectively gross. There is lots of blood and some good ‘kills’. The characters themselves at times are resourceful but are generally pretty stupid going places where you really shouldn’t etc. but the film is such a blast, who cares!!!
Also turning up for the ride is Edward Furlong from Terminator 2 playing a drug dealer and the original movie’s Linnea Quigley makes a cameo. All in all 92 minutes of fun and frolics with scary demons and possibly one of the most unpleasant sex scenes in memory, watch it’s conclusion – I don’t have feel sorry for Diora Baird’s character in that one.
